 7/7/2026 - From the Summit: Fireworks in the Ring – An Unforgettable Fourth of July Weekend in Ocala

There are weekends you enjoy, and then there are weekends you'll remember for years to come. Our Fourth of July weekend in Ocala, Florida, was certainly one for the memory books. While fireworks filled the evening sky, Summit Chihuahuas was creating plenty of excitement inside the show ring.

What made the weekend even more special was that our wins came with dogs we have bred, own, love, and proudly present ourselves. There is something incredibly rewarding about watching years of thoughtful breeding decisions and hard work come together in the ring.

The weekend began under respected judge Richard Powell, and Summit was off to a fantastic start.

Bronze Grand Champion Vittorio, owner-handled, earned Best of Breed and Best of Breed Owner-Handled, setting the tone for an exciting weekend ahead.

Anna, also owner-handled, followed with a beautiful Best of Opposite Sex, once again proving her consistency and quality.

With the first day complete, we couldn't have asked for a better beginning.

Independence Day truly lived up to its name.

Showing from the Bred-by-Exhibitor Class, It's Showtime walked into one of the strongest Long Coat Chihuahua lineups we've seen in quite some time. The ring included a Platinum Grand Champion that has consistently ranked among the nation's Top 20 Long Coat Chihuahuas for years. Simply competing against dogs of that caliber is an accomplishment. To leave the ring with Best of Breed made the day even more extraordinary.

Under respected judge Desmond Murphy, Showtime captured an incredible list of awards:

• Best of Breed
• Best of Breed Owner-Handled
• Best Bred-by-Exhibitor
• Best of Winners
• Winners Dog

But the excitement didn't stop there.

Later that afternoon, Showtime represented the breeding program beautifully in the Group ring, earning an Owner-Handled Group 4 and a Bred-by-Exhibitor Group 3.

For breeder-owner-handlers, these wins carry special meaning. The Bred-by-Exhibitor class is often considered one of the most prestigious achievements in AKC competition because it showcases dogs that are bred, owned, and exhibited by the very people who planned the breeding, whelped the litter, raised the puppy, and developed the dog from the very beginning. There is no greater validation of a breeding program than seeing a homebred dog not only win the breed but also earn recognition in the highly competitive Bred-by Toy Group. Watching Showtime carry the Summit prefix into the Group ring and come away with a beautiful Group 3 rosette was a moment of tremendous pride for our kennel.

Anna continued her successful weekend by earning another Best of Opposite Sex, while Vittorio added Select Dog to his weekend accomplishments.

As exciting as the weekend had already been, Sunday delivered a moment we'll never forget.

Under highly respected AKC Breeder Judge Mustapha El Khorchi, whose lifelong dedication to breeding outstanding Chihuahuas makes his opinion especially meaningful, Vittorio was awarded Best of Breed and Best of Breed Owner-Handled.

Later that afternoon, Vittorio returned to compete in the National Owner-Handled Series Group competition, where Judge El Khorchi selected him for an impressive Owner-Handled Group One.

The beautiful pink rosette was exciting, but it was the judge's heartfelt compliments about Vittorio that meant the most. Receiving that level of praise from someone who has devoted his life to preserving and evaluating our breed is something we will treasure forever.

Anna rounded out another consistent weekend with Best of Opposite Sex, while Showtime continued his winning streak by earning Winners Dog.

One of the things that made this weekend so meaningful is that these weren't simply dogs winning ribbons—they are dogs that represent years of dedication to our breeding program.

Showtime proudly competed as a breeder-owner-handled exhibit, while both Vittorio and Anna were showcased in the National Owner-Handled Series, demonstrating the quality that can be achieved through thoughtful breeding, careful conditioning, and unwavering commitment to the Chihuahua breed.

Every ribbon tells a story, but these ribbons represent something even greater: the culmination of years of planning, learning, dreaming, and believing in the dogs we produce.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Judges Richard Powell, Desmond Murphy, and especially Mustapha El Khorchi for recognizing the quality of our dogs. We also thank the Citrus County Kennel Club for hosting a wonderful weekend of shows and our friends who stayed ringside to cheer us on and celebrate each success.

As we packed up to head home, we carried far more than ribbons and rosettes. We brought home memories, renewed inspiration, and immense pride in what our breeding program continues to produce.

Weekends like this remind us why we do what we do—and why the journey is every bit as rewarding as the destination.

6/15/2026 - Summit Chihuahuas Shines at the Sunshine Cluster in Tampa

The Sunshine Cluster in Tampa, Florida, gave the Summit Chihuahuas team plenty to celebrate! From exciting debuts to impressive specialty and all-breed wins, our dogs made the trip worthwhile and returned home with beautiful ribbons, rosettes, prizes, and memories that will last a lifetime.

GCH CH Sunswept's Golden Anna Dip Wesann FDC CGC TKN ("Anna"), had an outstanding weekend in Tampa.

Day one, Anna began her trip with a Select ribbon under Gina Wieser and a Best of Opposite placement under judge Tammy Jackson. Next, Anna decided to share her talents with judge Donna Buxton. Judge Buxton awarded Anna another Select title. The following morning, Anna found herself in the ring with well respected AKC judge Douglas Johnson presiding. Judge Johnson was very complimentary of Anna and awarded her the Best of Breed Owner Handled ribbon and the Select title. Immediately following, Anna took to the Tampa Bay Chihuahua Club Specialty where she earned an Award of Merit and Best of Breed Owner Handled from Judge Angela Pickett. On Sunday morning, Anna received another Best of Breed Owner Handled and Award of Merit from International Judge, Roberto Velez-Pico. Later in the day, Dr. Azalea Alvarez honored Anna with the Best of Opposite ribbon. Anna is owned by Team 44. 

Some dogs are named perfectly, and It's Showtime certainly proved that in Tampa.

At the Tampa Bay Chihuahua Specialty, under judge Roberto Velez-Pico, Showtime earned Reserve Winners Dog.

The following all-breed show under Dr. Azalea Alvarez was his moment to shine. Showtime captured Winners Dog, Best of Winners, and Best of Breed Owner-Handled, making a huge statement and adding some beautiful new ribbons to his collection.

After some time away from competition, Bronze Grand Champion Vittorio made his return to the show ring in style. His return to the ring caught the eye of Judge Donna Buxton where she awarded him the Select Dog title and Best of Breed Owner Handled. Vittorio later came back out for the afternoon all-breed show under Dr. Azalea Alvarez and earned Select Dog and Best of Breed Owner-Handled. It was wonderful to see him back in action, and we greatly appreciated the judge's kind comments about him.

Every show career has a beginning, and Summit Titan in the Sky ("Orion") made his ring debut one to remember.

The young puppy earned two Best of Opposite Puppy rosettes, took home prize money that helped pay for dinner, and won a beautiful show bag that looked almost as good as he did. We couldn't be happier with his first weekend in the ring and look forward to watching him develop.

The Tampa Bay Chihuahua Club hosted a fantastic specialty filled with beautiful awards, generous prizes, and outstanding hospitality. A heartfelt thank you goes to President Ron Bush, Show Chair Rita Bush, and the many volunteers who worked behind the scenes to create such a memorable event.

Dog shows are about far more than ribbons. They are about friendships, sportsmanship, preserving our breed, and enjoying the journey with exceptional dogs. Still, it is always rewarding when hard work is recognized by respected judges.

We are incredibly proud of Anna, It's Showtime, Vittorio, and Orion for representing Summit Chihuahuas so well in Tampa. Their accomplishments made for a remarkable weekend, and we are excited to see what the rest of the year holds.
